Project Description
This 256,000 square foot building allows the consolidation of operations which, were previously housed in more than 3 diverse locations. The new building accommodated 640 people on opening day, plus an additional 260, as growth in the Region continues. The facility operates 24 hours, 365 days per year, and is entirely new construction, tailored to the specific needs of the occupants. Specialist Investigative teams, Training, Traffic, Tactical Teams, the Property & Evidence Repository, Quartermaster Stores are all housed in this complex. A 16-stall, 25-metre range, Defensive Tactics Room, Simulator Room, Gymnasium, Classrooms, an Auditorium, and a back-up 911 site are incorporated in the design. Limited public access is accommodated, particularly for press conferences, graduations, and special ceremonies. The site, which is near Pearson Airport, is 11 acres and provides parking for 755 cars. Extra care was required to prevent outdoor noise from infiltrating the building, and to isolate noisy functions from one another, within the building. The design was developed as the continuation of a detailed needs statement, which was prepared by an independent consulting architect.
