Project Description
The new building will be located about a kilometer from our current site on land owned by the County of Wellington (right next to the Museum and Library). The new building is 140,000 square feet which compares to 90,000 in our current building. A two story building features a welcoming and spacious front lobby with a fireplace. Two elevators, staircases, and wide hallways will allow easy access. There are six neighbourhoods (resident home areas), housing between 28 and 30 residents in each. Private accommodation also includes a private two piece washroom. Basic accom-modations have increased privacy, boasting a full height privacy wall in the bedroom, with a shared two piece washroom. Each bedroom will be equipped with furniture (including a bed and dresser, bedside table and lounge chair), feature a large picture window, and have access to telephone and satellite TV. In each neighbourhood there is a bathing room, dining room, sitting room with fireplace, recreation room, as well as utility rooms. The open concept food serveries in each neighbourhood will enhance the dining experience with the sights, sounds and smells of the "at home kitchen". Other spaces worth mentioning include the chapel, Snoezelen room, volunteer lounge, hair salon, palliative care suite, a special events room where families can dine with a resident and host a special event, a games room and a smoking room. The outdoor space has been well thought out. There will be paved walking paths, a courtyard, plenty of shaded areas, roof top gardens, a tree nursery, and a paved laneway to the County Library and Museum where residents and guests can visit.
