Description

The latest addition of the Carlisle Street parking garage has provided downtown visitors and residents with about 600 additional parking spaces in the city’s core.  About 500 of those were above ground with another 100 below ground.

The garage features accessible parking on every level with the third level including the bulk of accessible parking.  That level was constructed free of curbs and other hindrances, while providing easy access to elevators and the sky lobby to connect with the Ministry of Transportation building across Carlisle Street.

A courtyard on Carlisle Street has provided a place for people to stop for a break or access retailers in street-level storefronts.  The design has allowed enough room for patio coffee shops and eateries.

Rooftop gardens, plug-in stations for electric cars, LED sensor lighting, high-efficiency ventilation, and greywater collection for garden maintenance and wastewater in washrooms was added to the garage to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver status.  About 95 per cent of the materials from previous incarnation of the Carlisle Street parking garage was recycled.
