Description

The new Avondale Public School will replace the existing school facility at 171 Avondale Road in North York.

The new school will continue to be a consolidated Avondale School (JK-8) and Avondale Alternative Elementary School (JK-8).  The new school will have Ministry rated capacity of 553 pupil places and a gross floor area of approximately 65,000 sq. ft.

The new school building will include a new daycare facility with a rated capacity of 72 children.  This Childcare will be located within the Avondale School and leased by TDSB to City of Toronto Children’s Services.

The proposed building construction is comprised of concrete block foundations, concrete slab-on-grade, hollow core floor slabs on reinforced concrete block bearing walls.  The roof will be constructed with a combination of hollow core and OWSJ roof framing.  Areas of hollow core roof framing are designed to accommodate a third floor in the future.

The Avondale school site will be fully redeveloped as part of this project with new play yards, parking and driveways.  The Site Design includes a new access to 171 Avondale from Oakburn Crescent.  This access, across the northern part the 15 Oakburn Crescent site will include a pedestrian walkway, roadway access, and landscape buffer adjacent to the residential properties to the north of the site.
