Project Description
There are many components to the project, including the construction of a presentation theatre that will accommodate a seating capacity of 600 people in its main space and a 150-seat multi-purpose rehearsal hall, making it one of the largest theatres in the surrounding region. The stage area will feature an orchestral pit and a fly tower for hoisting stage scenery. The plans also call for a civic square where people can gather and host events, a lobby area with gallery space where artists can display their works, private meeting space, concession and catering facilities, retail/merchandising space, office and storage space and a parking lot area. The 275 new parking spaces will also serve to accommodate parking needs of the downtown core.
The theatre will serve the many community groups and organizations in York Region and surrounding areas, as well as performers traveling through the municipality. In addition to the opportunities for hosting touring companies and artists, private rentals and recreational arts culture programming will also be offered.
