Developed in association with Stafford Haensli Architects, the Angus Glen Community Centre and Library is situated on a 12-hectare gently sloping site overlooking the Angus Glen Golf Course in Markham, Ontario. Encompassing a future regional park, twin pad arena, gymnasium, pool, library, and multi-purpose spaces for all ages within the community, the Angus Glen Community Centre and Library is designed in harmony with the strong natural landscape.

The use of wood reinforced the facilitys connection to the natural landscape and created a warm and inviting environment for the community. Wood was an important element in underlining the clients and design teams commitment to sustainable design. Principles of sustainable design were applied to

the building in both its low-tech practical approaches to siting and materials and in its higher-tech systems and components. In this respect wood was chosen for its inherent qualities as a truly renewable resource.

As a firm, Shore Tilbe Irwin & Partners was honoured with the Building the Future Award, which recognizes the decision-making individuals and architectural firms which regularly specify, design or build projects with wood, and demonstrate excellence and innovation in wood design with a consistent history in the use of wood as a structural design choice. Firm Partner, Andrew Frontini, states: "Our designers have a strong passion for wood as a building material and constantly look for opportunities to bring wooden elements in to our work. Our commitment to this material stems from some of our core beliefs and the philosophy behind our designs."
