The Limestone District School Board has awarded the contract to build its new Intermediate and Secondary school to Bondfield Construction at a cost of $38.3 million.
The official announcement was made Wednesday evening during the school board’s first meeting of the new school year.
“I’m just really happy that we’re at this point that we’ve finally chosen the contractor and we’re ready to break ground,” School board Trustee Alec Ross said.
Bondfield is no stranger to building schools in Kingston — they're responsible for Sir. John A MacDonald Public School in the city's east end, and will begin construction on the currently unnamed intermediate and secondary school sometime this fall.
“This is the first secondary school in the city of Kingston proper that we've had an opportunity to build in over 40 years,” Krishna Burra, Superintendent of Education with the Limestone District School said.
Approximately 1300 students will attend the school when it opens in the fall of 2019.
